Planning the Perfect Party Pairings

LC 12 December Blog Header

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The scent of pine is in the air, colorful lights are all aglow, and calendars are filling up. After all, ‘tis the season for holiday parties, because sharing in the joy of the season is what it’s all about. We’ve gathered the perfect pairings, from dishes and drinks to themes and music. Whether you’re going for a timeless vibe or nostalgia with a twist, these ideas will ensure your soiree is merry and bright.

Holiday Soiree
Christmas, Christmas time is near. Time for cheese and time for cheer. A classic holiday celebration is a time-honored tradition. Deck the halls with mistletoe and holiday lights, and set the table with evergreen elements, like fresh tree trimmings. As for the dress code, ask guests to stay cozy in sweaters or to sparkle like tinsel.

Music to Play
This is the perfect setting for all the hits, ranging from Bing Crosby to Mariah, this Holiday Magic playlist will make your gathering feel like a winter wonderland.

What to Serve
Baked brie is a decadent holiday appetizer. Try Baked Creamy Brie with Spiced Rosemary-Scented Honey Red Wine Cranberries and/or Baked Brie with Honey, Pistachio and Figs. Both pair well with a sparkling sangria made with a light red wine and seasonal fruit.

“Christmas Morning” Party
Jingle all the way to the pajama party of the year. Create a warm and happy atmosphere that makes everyone feel like a kid on Christmas morning with classic movies, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Muppet Christmas Carol. Set up a gift exchange highlighting local artisans. Some of our favorites that perfectly complement our decadent goat cheeses include McEvoy Olive Oil, Torn Ranch Dried Nuts & Fruits, chocolates from Dick Taylor and TCHO, beautiful cutting boards, and a sourdough starter or bread-making kit.

Music to Play
Have yourself a merry little Christmas morning with A Charlie Brown Christmas, and then some modern renditions of beloved holiday songs turn up in this Indie Christmas playlist.

What to Serve
What were some of your favorite treats as a kid? Try elevated versions with the addition of creamy goat cheese, like Goat Cheese Pigs in a Blanket and Cranberry Goat Cheese Stuffed Cookie Sandwiches. Sip on mimosas made with sparkling wine and a splash of apple cider for maximum enjoyment.

Happy Challah-days Party
Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, get ready to light that menorah. Celebrate all eight nights at once with dreidels and gelt galore. Get in the spirit with tables set in shades of blue, silver, and gold, and some novelty napkins with puny phrases like “Love you a latke,” “This party is lit!” and, just like the theme, “Happy Challahdays.”

Music to Play
Liven up your festival of lights with this Hanukkah playlist, filled with songs by Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Maccabeats, and, of course, Adam Sandler.

What to Serve
Hanukkah is about the miracle of a menorah staying lit for eight nights with one night’s worth of oil, which has led to the custom of eating fried foods. This recipe for Goat Cheese Old Fashioned Doughnuts is a fun nod to the typical sufganiyot, or jelly donut. Latkes, or potato pancakes, are great topped with whipped goat cheese. And while latke and vodka may rhyme, it’s the taste of an espresso martini that makes for the ultimate Hanukkah party beverage pairing.

Retro Christmas
Rock around the Christmas tree, and throw a true Christmas party hop. Pull out all the heirloom ornaments, vintage Santa salt and pepper shakers, and antique holiday cookie jars. Add to the ambiance by placing your food on a lazy susan or two, and serving drinks in mid-century glassware. Encourage guests to dress up in vintage or vintage-inspired garb to make it feel like a holiday party straight out of an episode of Mad Men.

Music to Play
Dust off your record player for Christmas tunes from Elvis, Brenda Lee, and the Beach Boys. Want an easy, alternative version? This Retro Holiday playlist fits the bill.

What to Serve
Fondue became a popular cold weather dish in the US during the 1950s and 60s. This Goat Cheese Fondue harks back to that retro era, but in a new-old-fashioned way. The crispness of gin and lemon in a classic Tom Collins cocktail balances the decadence of the fondue.

Chrismukkah Celebration
2022 happens to be a year where Christmas and Hanukkah intersect, which means one thing: Christmukkah! Popularized by Seth Cohen in the early 2000s hit, The O.C., as a blend of the two holidays, this theme brings the best of both worlds. Decorate with both red and blue stockings, Santa hat-style yarmulkes, and floral centerpieces that mix blue hydrangeas and pine branches with red berry garland and a white bloom of your choice.

Music to Play
Create your own mix of songs that includes Christmas, Hanukkah, and wintery faves. The Chrismukkah soundtrack from The O.C. is also a great option.

What to Serve
One thing both holidays have in common is potatoes. Our Marinated Goat Cheese Twice Baked Potato Bites not only taste good, but are a dish everyone can enjoy. Hot dips are often enjoyed at any kind of holiday gathering, and this Hot Goat Cheese Dip is no exception. Toast the evening with a citrusy shandy garnished with a candied orange slice.

Best Of 2022 NYE Shindig
Ring in the new year celebrating your favorite moments of 2022. Decorate with photos from the past twelve months or references to pop culture. Ask guests to lean into the theme by dressing up some way that reflects 2022.

Music to Play
Jam out to a year’s worth of hits with a playlist like this with the Top Tracks of 2022. But if you need an excuse to listen to Harry’s House one more time, this theme is for you. (Bonus points if you play Midnights starting at — you guessed it — midnight.)

What to Serve
Finger foods always have a festive feel, and these appetizers are no exception. Stuffed mushrooms with goat cheese and pesto can be ready within minutes and look impressive. Another delicious option is taking traditional bacon wrapped dates and stuffing them with tangy goat cheese. What goes well with these apps and an ode to 2022? A Negroni Sbagliato…with prosecco.
